Orville was working on a new set of spring steel propeller shafts. He'd returned to Dayton with the second set of broken shafts only the day before. They'd broken on Nov. 28, and he left for home that day.
Meanwhile, back in Kill Devil Hills, Wilbur waited. For more than a month, the weather had been cold, but after Orville left, it warmed up.
Despite the perfect gliding weather, Wilbur couldn't do anything. Theyíd stopped practicing with the glider on Nov. 12 because the heat from the stove was drying out the glider's wooden frame, making it too dangerous to use.
So while he waited for his brother to return, Wilbur read, chopped firewood, and visited with his neighbors at the lifesaving station.
His dream of four years was within his grasp. They were very confident they would find success within the next few weeks. So confident, that they'd left a sort of press kit, including written biographies of themselves, for their family to distribute to newspapers after they flew.
How will you wait for your dream? When you know
it's within your grasp, perhaps only weeks away? Will you let stress and
anxiety disrupt you life, or will you have the confidence and patience
to know that you will reach your goal. The schedule may not be exactly
to your liking, but as long as you never lose sight of your dream, you
will soar to success.
